Weekend movie reviews

Hidalgo: Classic tale of the love between a man and his horse. And not in the gross way. Thumbs up.

The Prince & Me: Classic tale of boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy lies to girl, boy loses girl, boy wins girl back, boy loses girl again, boy--- hey, waitaminnit. You don't think I'm gonna give away the ending, do you? This was much better than it needed (and was expected by me) to be. Thumbs WAY up.

Jersey Girl: Classic tale of boy marries girl, boy impregnates girl, boy loses girl, boy gains daughter, boy learns to love again, boy finds new girl. Thumbs and all other extremities down. All the way down. Gack. (Sorry Kevin. I really wanted to like it. Even George Carlin and brief cameos by Jason Lee and Matt Damon couldn't save this mess.)

Ever noticed how the word "boy" looks really weird if you keep looking at it?

That is all.

The Prince and Me: Tom Waits song

Jersey Girl: Bruce Springsteen cover of a Tom Waits song

Hellboy: Tom Waits song and a cover of a Nick Cave song.

Thumbs up. Even for the two I haven't seen.

(What can I say? I'm a sucker for Tom.)

(Well, that and tits.)

I saw Taking Lives this weekend. Classic tale of crazy, sexy actress (with those lips) in mediocre, predictable movie, that Lord only knows why you'd pay 10.25 to see.

10.25? The Fascists return.

Boy prince marries girl and she gets to pick out any piece of jewelry from the royal treasury. Not that I've seen the movie, but I've seen the actress on television.

Wait. Hidalgo was about a dude and his horse? I must have missed that while I was engaging in elaborate fantasies involving Mr. Sharif in his Bedouin get-up, tabbouleh, and thumb cymbals.

Heh.

I loved Hidalgo. I'm looking forward to The Prince & Me and Jersey Girl. Saw Hellboy today, immense fun.

I think almost any word looks weird if I try to look at it (or say it) longer than the minimum to read/speak. I'm whacky like you (but worse), dear!
