Oooooh. A trailer for the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, right here. I can't wait.

Posted by: Lauren on December 16, 2004 06:31 PMYeah, I saw that back when the dragon who is small and white linked to it. As a Burton/Elfman fan, naturally I'm interested (by which I mean that when we get to May or so, I'm going to be breaking out in an itchy anticipation rash). The song played in the trailer sounds like Elfman's gone back to some of his PeeWee Herman and Mystic Knights roots. He said in the Forbidden Zone DVD extras that he's actually singing in an Oompa Loompa song, so that should be cool. However, I'm bothered by the trailer. The hair and makeup types made Depp look gaunt and effiminate. While I've never read the book, I have seen Wilder's excellent portrayal, and he was a very different kind of creepy. In the trailer, at least, Depp looks kinda....well, kinda prissy.
That said, I fully expect Burton can and will pull it off nicely.
Posted by: TJ on December 17, 2004 10:21 AMThank you TJ! I couldn't help but think, "Geez, did they screw up casting?" He doesn't look right physically ... I'm sure he'll do a good job but I don't know how well it'll pass off.
Oh, and what the crap is with the 0 Oompa Loompa count in that trailer? Come on. Just one.
Posted by: Polerand on December 17, 2004 01:36 PMGene Wilder's portrayal of Willy Wonka is marvelous! I do not know if Depp's portrayal will make me forget it!

Posted by: shelley (not so cynical) on December 17, 2004 09:40 PMThe original movie (with Wilder) was fantabulous! However... I have had Oompaloompaphobia ever since. *shudder*
They really scare me.
