Could I be any more self-involved? Here I am complaining about breast milk in the work fridge next to my sugar-free pudding when there is real tragedy going on down south. I just don't know what else I can do about that. I've given several donations, I've been working to help displaced college students find courses to take and places to live, and I've contributed a couple of big garbage bags full of clothing to evacuees. I live too far from Edwards Air Force Base to be able to volunteer there without taking time off from work and, this being the busiest time of year for my office, time off is just not an option.
I was wiped out when I finished work on Tuesday after having worked all but Sunday of the holiday weekend, but I had received a very tempting invitation for the evening. As much as I was inclined to go home and flop down on my couch with some bad Chinese food, instead I decided to flop down on a bar stool in Harvard Square with a couple of good friends (including this bloggalicious babe and her fantabulous hubby) and some surprisingly good Chinese food. This was followed by a delightful evening of comedy and magic at The Magic Lounge, featuring former blogger and current performer extraordinaire Danny Hustle with his amazing feats (and hands) of magic and some solid guffaws throughout.
The show also starred Mike Bent, David Oliver, and a couple of other local magicians whose names excape me at the moment, but each of whom did a fabulous job. Doves appeared and disappeared, minds were read, Coke bottles went missing, only to be replaced by wine glasses filled with what looked like Chardonnay, rings were mysteriously interconnected and separated, men acted like dogs, men acted as though other men were their dogs, and hilarity ensued.

Posted by: Krissy on September 9, 2005 02:37 PMHoney, it doesn't take a magic act for a man to act like a dog. Haven't you learned this yet?

Posted by: beth on September 9, 2005 07:29 PMSounds like fun.
Posted by: Kel on September 9, 2005 08:25 PMshelley, it was wonderful to catch up with you, and i'm *so* glad you had a good time! was a bit worried when me volunteering for an act meant you got dragged up on stage, again... :)
and the food was mighty good, too, wasn't it?
Posted by: beth on September 17, 2005 01:00 AMalso, fwiw - there are more volunteers than evacuees at Edwards, from what i've heard. and it seems to me that the work you're doing finding places for students to continue their education is fantastically important. thank you!!
