A little good news for a change

Looks like the Massachusetts anti-gay marriage amendment is well and truly headed for defeat. Frankly, I've been surprised there was even that much support for the amendment more than a year after the legislation passed and hundreds of same-sex couples married in the state ... and nothing else happened. No judgment day; no opening up of the bowels of the earth to swallow up the newlyweds; no damage to heterosexual unions (at least, no damage that wasn't already done by us heterosexuals). Nope; there's nothing to suggest that recognizing the legal marriage of gay couples has done anything except extend a civil right (and the concomitant legal rights) to individuals previously denied that right.

Once again, I'm happy to live in Massachusetts.

I was just reflecting about this recently. About how I'm getting close to 30, and at this point in my life, I want so much to meet someone nice, get married, buy a house, start a family, set down roots somewhere...

...you know, do all those things that are supposed to bring on the fall of civilization.

I've thought long and hard about going to the Hill on Wednesday to speak out again. Even came up with a good slogan for my sign. ("We won't sit on the back of the bus anymore!" Reference to civil rights movement! Rosa Parks and everything! Clever, no?) Unfortunately, besides the conglomeration of many work responsibilities that day, I've had a few hints that it may be a little too sensitive of a topic right now, in light of recent events. But I will be there in spirit, and God willing, or something like that, hope to get the chance to exercise that right someday. After the political developments of the past 5 years, I don't trust anymore in projections or in the right thing being done in the public arena, however likely it may appear, but I will fervently hope.

Be happy, I live in a state of bible thumping hipocrites.

(OK, maybe not that bad, but there are a lot of things that annoy me.)

Plus, in the time since that law's been in place, your sister appears to have converted!

Huzzahs! That is good news, for a change. Hmm . . . wonder if South Dakota will be next? Okay, well . . . maybe not so much.

Being down here, you have NO idea how much I miss the liberal northeast...the way life SHOULD be. I have some new friends (lesbians adopting from Boston, actually)...I cant imagine how tough it is for them down here...no adoption agency will TOUCH them unless they change their lifestyle to conform to others' wishes...can you even IMAGINE? Sad.

Duh, Shelley. There's a 3 1/2 year "good period" leading up to a 3 /12 year "bad period", so expecting armageddon within a year is just ... impatient.

And Meg, I'd be pretty pissed if any agency touched me. Excluding some sort of sexy lady agency. But even then, agency's have man-hands, and that ain't cool.
