Again with the squatters who sprinkle when they tinkle. Today, the Local Toilet-Seat Sprinkler not only left her spray on the seat, but she also failed to flush. And judging from the lack of any paper in the unflushed bowl, it appears she did not feel the need to wipe either herself OR the seat.
I don't think I need to say any more about that. (Today.)
Happy Anniversary to the two people who should know that I'm talking to them. I love you both, and wish you many, many more happy occasions together.
I just couldn't watch the State of the Onion last night, although I listened to part of it. Anybody watch or listen and feel anything other than gratitude and/or relief that it's his last one?
I deal with many imperious parents and entitled students in my job. (I also deal with many fantastic students and parents.) The worst of these are the children of potential major donors to the school. The parents, as demanding as they can sometimes be, have arguably learned to expect people to fall all over themselves to please them. (One might even posit that they have earned the right to expect red-carpet treatment, although some among us would differ.) The children of these folks, however, should be reminded that they are (1) privileged to have wealthy and, perhaps, generous parents, and are (b) also privileged to be attending a fine institution of higher education. None of this entitles them to be imperious or, well, entitled. When they take on that domineering tone as though they, themselves, pay the tuition bill or might, one day, donate amounts of money containing large quantities of zeros, I want to stab them in between their fingers and pull their eyelids over their heads until it hurts.
Today I found myself exclaiming about how warm it is outside and what a beautiful day it is. Reality check: It's 44 degrees (F) today and I was gallivanting around without a coat at lunchtime. Yes, I am a native New Englander.
Best line from a student this week:
"You can see what I'm dealing with." Spoken with a virtual roll of the eyes after her overbearing mother left the room, by a first-year student who is reluctantly taking the rest of the semester off to go home for necessary medical treatment, and who is (like most teens and, let's face it, the rest of us too) justifiably annoyed by everything her mother does.
That's it for now. Have a great night!
Posted by cynical at January 29, 2008 05:18 PMHeh. It got into the sixties overnight out here and I had to close windows in the bedroom; I was freezing my okole off.
Posted by: Linkmeister on January 29, 2008 06:22 PMWe had 64 degrees yesterday afternoon and a blizzard today. Ya gotta love the weather.
I watched the onion and the aftermath last night. Hey...someone has to do it. Obama paid us a visit today and had his girl (our gov.) with him. Things appear to be getting interesting.
Posted by: chapin on January 29, 2008 07:46 PMI cannot watch/listen to/read about GWB without being completely nauseous. Dramamine helps, but then I just fall asleep. Maybe that's the only way I can watch one of his State of the Onions wherein he Mangles the English language. Asleep.
Glad it was his last.
I just graduated from my a college in New England and there were a bunch of people that I knew and knew of with parents that gave to the school. It is funny, one person in particular I am thinking about, failed majority of his courses, was on academic probation but was never asked to leave after that patterned continued. But you know what drives me crazy more, more then people that get by because their parents give money, its the people that can bullshit so good that they don't have to do a damn thing-- it is through their bullshit that people regergitate what other professors want to hear so therfore they do better then those that have to work harder because they cannot bullshit. Can you tell that I have dealt with that?
Posted by: Wantabe Ph.D. on January 31, 2008 02:42 PMI was so excited that it was THE LAST State of the Union Address that #$#@% will ever disgorge from his lying mouth, I sat through the whole think with a smile plastered across my face. It was like a dream come true.
Posted by: Chris on January 31, 2008 10:58 PMGross! My former boss, the Devil Wears Payless, was quite the pee-er herself. Kack!
Come see Baby Jake's newest pictures, taken fresh today,
I live in Los Angeles, and it's been a relatively chilly winter - 30's and 40's at night. I love the looks I get walking around in shorts at night. People think I'm nuts. I;m actually from Cleveland originally and 40 degrees at night in January is balmy.
Posted by: Hal on February 2, 2008 10:29 PMI'm so against squatters. Just put some TP on the seat and stop making it dirtier.
