I saw a truck on the way to work yesterday with a logo proclaiming "1756 Mayonnaise." It appeared to be a brand name, and the number 1756 was written in a font that made it look like a year, as in maybe the year the company was founded? At the time, though, all I could think was, "Why would anyone want to buy some mayo left over from 1756?" (Okay, my link search reveals that mayo was actually invented in 1756. Which sorta clears things up, and also sorta makes my point.)
Then this morning I was out for a walk when a Schwing construction truck, with a cherry-picker/crane thingy on it, drove by. Come on, people, you're just begging for it. I'm sure that even the guys who work for the company can't restrain themselves when the crane thingy is, um, extended. (That last one may not be entirely safe for work. Turn your volume down, at least.) The first time I ever saw a Schwing truck (a cement mixer) was at the Baltimore airport when I flew in to meet a friend a few years ago. At the time, I had never heard of the company and couldn't keep from a little Beavis-type guffawing -- and that one didn't even have an erection crane.
Okay, that's all I've got today. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Posted by: tomorrow on July 12, 2008 04:10 PMha ha ha ha. i thought the same thing about mayo from the 1700s. who honestly would want that. that's gross. i throw things out if they're older than a few months, not a few centuries.
schwing!!
Posted by: christine on July 12, 2008 07:52 PMTrue fact: every time I see a construction vehicle with "Schwing" painted on it, I do the Wayne's World "schwing!" sound effect, and sometimes even the little hip thrust. In fact, I did it just now, typing this comment.
Posted by: Brian on July 12, 2008 09:22 PMSame thing with Wong computers.
They had to know that even one Wong does not make it right.
This reminds me of a local grocery store's display of it's employees photos.
On each poster was the employee's 8x10 photo with a cartoon bubble that said, "Howdy, I'm Joe" or "Howdy, I'm Debbie."
The kid from Vietnam's photo said, "Howdy, I'm Hung."
Bwahahaha!
Posted by: KarenZipdrive on July 14, 2008 09:28 PMI saw Dana Carvey's latest stand-up routine. I was crestfallen. I used to hold him in huge esteem, but....this one just missed.
Posted by: TJ on July 15, 2008 09:38 AMTJ I saw Dana Carvey's HBO special too and I couldn't agree with you more.
He's lost his edge.
